Holly Farm Park

The Foundation's first land acquisition project features a skate spot, a state-of-the-art play structure, and a rolling grassy area.

In a dense, growing neighborhood that previously had no park, Holly Farm Park offers more than a thousand children a place to play outdoors.

The community can now assemble at the "talking circle" for meetings and celebrations of every kind. A wildflower meadow is surrounded by old trees and hollies. A bioswale controls and filters stormwater, adding to the health of Portland's rivers.

We created a way for Portland Parks & Recreation, Trust for Public Land, and Oregon Parks and Recreation to join forces with the City of Portland to acquire land, raising funds from donors large and small. Private support totaled more than $800,000 of a $2.1 million project, including all phases of land acquisition, planning, and park development.

Renowned landscape architecture firm Walker Macy, hired by the Foundation, designed the park and invested many donated hours in the effort. Bringing the design to life required great generosity from many other in-kind donors as well, from stone and concrete work to irrigation to plant material.
