Time and weather had rendered a heavily-used play area decrepit and dangerous. Hundreds of residents and children had no other place to play in the neighborhood.

A $50,000 grant from the Opus Foundation to Portland Parks Foundation replaced the aging wood play structure with equipment meeting current safety guidelines, soft surfacing now covered the ground where old paving had been, and handicapped access was added for children with disabilities. This private-public partnership brought new life to a playground in need.
